Emergency Round House Appeal

Help Rebuild Flag Fen’s Iron Age Roundhouse

Posted on: July 15th, 2025 by fmpct

On the night of 13 July, flames lit up the sky above Flag Fen Archaeology Park. Vandals set fire to our beloved Iron Age roundhouse, and in minutes, it was gone. The thatched roof, the oak frame, the daub walls — all reduced to ash. Only charred fragments remain.

This wasn’t just a building. It was a living classroom, a time machine, a place where 10,000 children each year stepped into the world of our ancestors. Built in 2022 with love, care, and community support, it stood as a powerful symbol of our shared heritage.

Now, we need your help to rebuild it.

️ We’re launching an emergency appeal to raise £50,000.

This will fund:

Traditional materials like timber, thatch, and daub

Skilled craftspeople and community volunteers

The full reconstruction of the roundhouse — just as it was

“This is a devastating loss,” said archaeologist Francis Pryor MBE.

“Our priority now is to rebuild — so future generations can continue to learn from this unique and powerful place.”

✅ Here’s how you can help right now:
